“I swore I’d be the most famous musician in the world.”
“Dat’s dangerous, dat kinda swear,” said Cliff.
“Isn’t it what every artist wants?” said Buddy.
“In my experience,” said Glod, “what every true artist wants, really wants, is to be paid.”
“And famous,” said Buddy.
“Famous I don’t know about,” said Glod. “It’s hard to be famous and alive. I just want to play music every day and hear someone say, ‘Thanks, that was great, here is some money, same time tomorrow, okay?”
― Terry Pratchett, Soul Music
Every famous song starts somewhere.
Sometimes it starts in a little studio somewhere and creeps out into the light, blinking….
then it’s promptly snapped up and shot into the stratosphere
You’ll probably know all of these songs. But maybe not THESE versions.
These are the Obscure Originals that no-one ever plays.

Greetings, Intrepid Listener!
It’s been a very hectic time here at Cabinet central recently and I’m a little bit brain fried!
War and Peace is a weighty subject that deserves respect and a clear head and I’m not sure I can manage that right now, so I’m going to park this theme for the moment and revisit later on in the year.
So, in response to an enthusiastic suggestion from our Twitter crew, I present, for your consideration, the slightly less serious, although still curious, theme:
“Give my regards to Broadway”.
We’re looking for pop covers of songs from musicals – we might stretch to including one or two songs that subsequently became part OF a “jukebox musical”
but ideally we’d prefer to keep it the other way around!
Please send requests in the usual way
Tweet to #xmcab including the word “request” and the artist and title of the song

What’s that you say? Let’s do the show right here?

“Eurovision is an exciting, camp, foolish spectacle.
You can’t top it. It is fun, light entertainment.
It is the biggest of its kind anywhere in the world.
It is not about politics or asserting your place in the community, not even about national pride.
It is not an opportunity to show your neighbours how much you love them.
It is about picking the best popular song in Europe.”
Terry Wogan
Love it or hate it, you can’t ignore it
